August 8, 2025 (Friday), 12:00–1:30 PM, 1.5 LU

Registration

This informative session is designed for anyone currently navigating the path to architectural licensure. Whether you’re a recent graduate, emerging professional, an established practitioner licensed in another country, student, or anywhere in between. This session will offer valuable insights and demonstrate the full path to licensure, including how to set up your NCARB Record, navigate the Architectural Experience Program® (AXP®), and prepare for the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®). The presentation will also cover recent updates to NCARB programs and explain how to maximize your career potential in architecture. A Q&A session will follow the presentation, providing an opportunity to get your questions answered directly

Presented by Abigail Benjamin, AIA, NCARB, CNU-A, this session will provide clear guidance and practical advice on how to progress through NCARB requirements toward licensure, supported by Abigail’s years of leadership and expertise. She currently serves as the 2023–2026 AIA New Jersey Young Architect Representative (YAR), 2019–2026 AIA New Jersey Licensing Advisor.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the competencies required for the practice of architecture as identified in the AXP and describe ways to achieve and demonstrate the competencies.
  2. Utilize the demonstrated resources to identify the specific requirements for licensure and lawful practice in each jurisdiction.
  3. Explain why competency and licensure are important to protect the public health, safety, and welfare.
  4. Outline the process of becoming licensed as an architect in the United States

The session will be moderated by Erin Sharp-Newton, M. Arch, Chair of AIANJ WIA, and will conclude with an open Q&A for attendees.
