Montclair, NJ – AIA Newark & Suburban Architects (AIANS) is excited to announce that Barkitecture, a festive, family- and dog-friendly event, will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 1–5 PM at the Union Congregational Church in Montclair, NJ. There is no charge for the event, which will be held rain or shine.
About a dozen local architects and contractors will compete for ribbons by displaying unique pet shelters they have designed and built. Guests can vote for their favorite in the “People’s Choice Award.” Other categories will include Best in Show, Greenest Paw (most sustainable design), Craziest Cat (most unique concept), Fat Cat (highest silent auction bid), and Graphic Bark (best presentation board and signage).
The pet houses will be sold through a silent auction during the afternoon. Proceeds will be shared equally among three nonprofit animal rescue organizations: Rescue Haven Foundation of Caldwell, PAWS of Montclair, and Associated Humane Societies of Newark.
Children will be able to make and decorate their own mini doghouses and get dog and cat (temporary) tattoos, among other activities. Guests will also be able to meet and greet dogs, some of which may be available for adoption later through the organizations mentioned above.
