AIA South Jersey Historic Cape May Library Tour

May 17, 2025 @ 1:00 pm
Reading Time: < 1 minute

Join AIA South Jersey on this tour of the Cape May Library at the Historic Franklin Street School, we’ll dive into repurposing a historic building while preserving its architectural integrity. You’ll learn from the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties guide the careful integration of modern systems and amenities without damaging the building’s fabric. We’ll also explore how the library’s design honors the significant contributions of African Americans to Cape May’s development as a resort town. Along the way, you’ll hear about the complexities of navigating project approvals and coordinating with various public funding and permitting entities. This tour offers a fascinating look at the balance between historic preservation and creating a space for the future.
