SUMMARY:Integrating Spatial Computing into Architecture and Planning Practice: Augmented Reality for Inclusive Development
DESCRIPTION:Reading Time: 2 minutesJoin Women in Architecture for an informative webinar! \nCourse Description \nThe next era of computing will be spatial. Spatial computing merges digital and physical worlds\, extending the boundaries of computing beyond screens\, and enabling users to interact with digital information and objects as if they exist in the real world. These technologies are poised to be particularly transformative in architecture and planning\, opening up new avenues to move beyond traditional 2D drawings and static 3D models and design and experience spaces in fully immersive\, interactive environments. \nAugmented Reality (AR)\,\, allows practitioners to walk through and modify designs in real-time\, communicating a more intuitive understanding of scale\, proportion\, and spatial relationships. It is also timely – with the majority of new development now taking place within existing areas\, architects must navigate complex social landscapes\, address community concerns\, and reimagine existing fabrics. AR can function as a compelling visual language\, enabling stakeholders to “inhabit” proposed spaces before construction begins. AR can bridge the gap between abstract plans and tangible realities\, making a design more accessible to clients\, stakeholders\, and community members alike. \nIn this session with Dana Chermesh-Reshef\, CEO and Founder of inCitu – the first augmented reality platform for architects\, builders\, and developers – we will explore the potential impact of AR in architecture and planning\, and provide guidance on how to integrate this technology into existing architecture and design workflows. From creating AR-ready 3D models\, to leveraging user-friendly platforms for activation\, we’ll provide practical insights to help understand and incorporate AR into practice. We’ll also examine real-world case studies where AR has played an impactful role\, and ultimately lead to better-designed\, community-embraced projects. \nSpeaker: Dana Chermesh-Reshef\, Founder & CEO\, inCitu\nDana is an architect specialized in infill development and housing policies\, turned urban data scientist (NYU CUSP ’18). In 2020\, Dana founded inCitu: a startup on the mission to democratize city planning through augmented reality (AR). Prior to inCitu Dana worked at the New York City Department of City Planning (DCP)\, her research on the feasibility of Tel-Aviv’s city center rezoning was published in “The Marker” newspaper and she is a frequent lecturer on Smart Cities’ next frontier. \nLearning Objectives\n1. Understand the role of AR as a visualization and engagement tool in architectural practice and urban development processes.\n2. Learn how to integrate AR into existing architectural design workflows and client presentations.\n3. Understand the state of the 3D industry as it relates to architecture\, and evolving standards for real-time 3D modeling.\n4. Review successful case studies of projects where AR has been integrated into the development and public engagement process.\n5. Gain practical strategies for using AR to improve community engagement around built projects. \nREGISTER HERE: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/oXWB3cYXQLKqWiKL7YdHfg
