The tour groups will also visit one or two interior spaces including the shared dining.  \n \nLECTURE: \nNew Residential Colleges Built for Community – Princeton University \nPresented by Maintland Jones\, TenBerke Architects \nHow can notions of scale and materiality on a historic campus be negotiated with contemporary design? How can relationships between indoors and outdoors be configured? Maitland Jones and his team at TenBerke asked these questions with their ambitious design for Princeton University’s two newest residential colleges. As a component of campus-wide growth strategies and part of Princeton’s residential college tradition\, the new colleges give architectural expression to the ongoing commitment to inclusion and belonging. TenBerke’s design creates a dialogue between architecture and landscape that builds community and is sensitive to traditional campus space-making. Mait will discuss how his team created a richness of experiences and a sense of inclusivity for students by implementing skillful siting\, massing\, and universal access.  \nDesign and Service Award Winners will be announced at the  completion of the Lecture. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAIA Member \n  \n$100 \nTour\, Reception & Lecture \n  \n$75 \nReception & Lecture \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEPIC Member \n  \n$35 \nTour\, Reception & Lecture \n  \n$25 \nReception & Lecture\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNon-AIA Member \n  \n$200 \nTour\, Reception & Lecture \n  \n$150 \nReception & Lecture \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER TODAY \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you would like to sponsor or have questions about this event\, please contact \nChristina Goldstein | cgoldstein@njpsi.com

SUMMARY:AIA South and Jersey Shore Joint Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Reading Time: < 1 minuteDATE: Wednesday\, September 20\, 2023 \nTIME: 5 to 9 PM \nLOCATION: The Smithville Inn – 1 N. New York Rd Galloway\, NJ 08205 \nPRESENTATION: Building the Contagious Disease Hospital at Ellis Island: Hospital design\, materials\, and methods from 1900 – 1915 \nPRESENTERS: Jennifer Arnoldi\, AIA\, Senior Associate at Mills + Schnoering Architects\, LLC\, Jean Zimmerman\, Save Ellis Island \nDESCRIPTION: The expansion of Ellis Island with new hospital facilities circa 1900 brought advanced methods in medical care as well as construction techniques and materials. This lecture will unfold the planning and uses of the hospital buildings on the NJ side of the island until they were abandoned in 1954. It will also explore a brief history of iron and concrete construction\, demonstrating the progress of theoretical and applied sciences in building engineering. The Kahn system of reinforced hollow tile construction was widely used for floor/ ceiling systems throughout Ellis Island’s contagious ward buildings\, bringing benefits of fireproof\, prefabricated and sanitary construction materials. A current stabilization project in the Staff House will take a closer look at this framing system; a second project will examine ground improvement through grouting to stabilize another building. \nCREDITS: 2 HSWs \nCOST: AIA Members: $30\, Associates & Students: FREE\, Guests: $40* (cash\, check or credit taken at door.) (3.3% surcharge fee for credit) \nRSVP: Wednesday\, September 13\, 2023 \nRSVP to Phil Giambri at 609-425-5499 or pg.aiasj@gmail.com with your attendance. \n\nMembership determined by the membership roster as of the date of this meeting.\n*IA South Jersey is registered with the AIA Continuing Education System AIA/CES.\n\nThis program is for 2 HSWs which will be reported directly to the AIA/CES for AIA members. \n\nMany of our ancestors came through Ellis Island and some even stayed at the NJ end of the island at the hospital complex before they entered into America. \nAt this joint meeting\, take this opportunity to see this rare presentation by Jennifer Arnoldi\, AIA of Mills + Schnoering Architects\, LLC who is in charge of the stabilization of the south side of the island. SUMMARY:2023 Marketing Services – From Project to Publication – Getting Your Work Published to Expand Your Reputation
DESCRIPTION:Reading Time: < 1 minuteKatie Alessi\, Marketing Director & Founder\, Trifecta Collaborative; Kelly Donahue\, Communications Director & Founder\, Trifecta Collaborative. \nYou’ve been designing your project for years\, and the building is about to open. But the public doesn’t know you designed the project\, and the architect isn’t even mentioned in the project publicity. How can you ensure you and your firm are front and center for the ribbon cutting and media coverage? The point of strategic PR is to build an image for your firm and\, through that image\, maintain good relationships with your key public — clients\, potential clients\, publications\, and community. \nWe will pull back the curtain to share a deeper understanding of the life cycles of project promotion — from construction to publication. Learn what it takes to get a project into print\, what it takes to get a profile in a local publication\, regional trade journal\, or even Architect Magazine; what keeps journalists interested in your work\, and how and where to begin. We know what it takes to build a consistent image for an architecture firm that is both timeless and nimble\, and that will serve as a baseline for your image for many years and adapt as your firm grows and evolves. So\, let’s get started. \n(Approved for 1.5 LUs) \nRegister here: https://web.cvent.com/event/c644e042-4193-4ad3-9292-8462c259f666/regProcessStep1
