SUMMARY:Assessing Progress & Challenges of New York's Aging Infrastructure
DESCRIPTION:Reading Time: < 1 minuteIn March 2014\, the Center for an Urban Future documented an array of challenges and vulnerabilities resulting from the city’s aging infrastructure. The initial report in 2014\, titled “Caution Ahead”\, revealed that many of the city’s roads\, bridges\, subway signals\, water and sewer mains\, and public buildings were more than 50 years old and in varying states of disrepair. And it identified a minimum investment of $47.3 billion over the next five years to bring the city’s core infrastructure to a state of good repair. \nJoin us on January 14th as Jonathan Bowles\, the Center for Urban Future’s Executive Director focuses on the new study which provides a five-year update to the assessment of New York City’s aging infrastructure vulnerabilities. In this five-year update to our landmark report on New York City’s aging infrastructure\, we find that the city has made record-level capital investments\, but results have been mixed. Increased usage and new stresses from climate change make bringing the city’s core infrastructure to a state of good repair all the more essential. \nThe new analysis shows that some of the problems that have been documented five years ago have only gotten worse and that the new stressors like climate change have only added to the overall price tag to bring the city’s core infrastructure to a state of good repair. \n\nIncreased capital investment—particularly in water and sewer infrastructure and street resurfacing—is beginning to show results. But in other areas\, conditions have gotten worse as needs have grown.\nAlthough the city has ramped up the pace of water main replacement\, there were still 522 water main breaks last year—the highest total in over a decade.\nNew York City’s bridges also show mixed results. The number of structurally deficient bridges—those in need of substantial maintenance and repair—has declined but the number of bridges that are also fracture critical—at risk of partial collapse—have increased.\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Analyze\, Delete or Merge Non-standard Revit Styles with Ideate StyleManager
DESCRIPTION:Reading Time: < 1 minuteIdeate StyleManager addresses the challenges that arise when Revit users load or import content into the model because the corresponding styles automatically come with the content. Proper management of these styles reduces publishing errors and end-user confusion\, but the management process in Revit can be time-consuming and risky\, and errors can dramatically impact the models and production documents. \nUse Ideate StyleManager to: \n• Safely delete styles that otherwise cannot be deleted or purged in Revit software\n• Merge non-standard styles into standard styles\n• Forensically analyze the usage of all styles to understand the true scope of a deletion\n• Clean up Object Styles\, Line Styles\, Line Patterns\, Fill Patterns\, Materials\, Material Appearance Assets\, View Filters\, Templates\, and Scope Boxes \nDiscover the potential of the entire Ideate Software family of products which will be showcased during the latter part of this webinar. Revit users around the globe resort to these Revit productivity tools to ensure their building information models are accurate and the data they contain is reliable. Tune in to find out new ways to improve the output and speed of your work. Register.

DESCRIPTION:Reading Time: < 1 minuteNETWORKING\, AIA OVERVIEW & DINNER CEU PRESENTATION \nAre you an existing member or someone looking to join AIA? Join us for our Fall Kickoff Event that includes a networking happy hour followed by an overview of AIA National\, AIA New Jersey and AIA West Jersey.  \nPresentation Topic: ‘Does the Architect Share Responsibility for AHJ Field Changes’ \nled by Gary Chiumento Esq.\, who specializes in Construction Law Litigation \nMore and more frequently Building Inspectors are requiring changes be made to the building which vary from the plans that were reviewed and approved by the Plan Reviewer. As the design professional\, what options do we have to refute the changes and what is our responsibility for them? Some jurisdictions now require the Design Professional to attend monthly meetings with Code Enforcement after permits are issued. How does this change our responsibility and what is the impact on our liability? The program will be lead by Gary Chiumento Esq. who specializes in Construction Law Litigation. This course has been approved for 3 AIA LU’s. \nRSVP today! \n
